The authors of the article analyzed the terms "corporation", "scientific-educational corporation". The distinctive features of scientific-educational corporations in Russia are highlighted, the experience of successful global scientific-educational corporations and Russian educational institutions is analyzed. The article examines the role, as well as the main limitations and challenges of scientific- educational corporations. The features by which educational institutions can be classified as scientific-educational corporations are formulated, the directions of the positive influence of this kind of structures on the economy of the state are highlighted.
