PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ALTERNATIVE ENERGY IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

Keri Igor Talevich  (PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Moscow, Russian Federation )

The purpose of the work is to study the possibilities and prospects for the development of alternative energy in the Russian Federation. The object of research is alternative energy and renewable energy sources. Research methods: literary analysis and synthesis of information, correlation and regression analysis, forecasting. The article examines the prerequisites for the development of alternative energy in Russia, which are conditioned by the global transition to renewable energy sources. The development of the Russian electric power industry market and its territorial features are investigated. It has been established that the share of electricity generation in the Russian Federation from renewable energy sources is less than 1%, however, there is a large amount of unused generating capacity from this source. The most significant regions of electric energy consumption have been identified: Central Russia, Siberia, and the Urals. The main problems include: difficulties with investments in alternative energy; the volatility and instability of alternative energy due to the climate; the unsatisfactory state of the economy; heterogeneity and uneven development of Russian regions due to; features of transport infrastructure and electricity transfer. In order to predict the development of energy based on renewable energy sources in Russia, a correlation and regression analysis was carried out. During the analysis, a predictive linear regression model was obtained to predict the development of alternative energy in Russia. The model is based on the following variables: the installed capacity of renewable energy power plants, electricity production as a demand factor, and investments in energy production and distribution as a supply factor. Forecasting the development of alternative energy until 2028 shows steady growth according to the model obtained. Thus, alternative energy in the Russian Federation has growth prospects. The article concludes that accelerating the development of the electric power industry based on renewable energy sources in the future 3-4 years is not advisable, due to the fact that the existing electric power system of the Russian Federation almost completely provides consumption through thermal power plants, nuclear and hydropower. The conclusion of the paper presents the conclusions based on the results of the study.

Keywords:alternative electric power industry, renewable energy sources, state support, regional development
