This study aims to analyzing Russian-Polish cultural ties using the example of the work of the Polish poet A. Mickiewicz and Russian composers of the 19th century. The objectives of the study were to consider such issues as «musicality» in the work of A. Mickiewicz and the embodiment of the poetry of the Polish poet in the romance and symphonic music of Russia in the 19th century. Russian-Polish cultural ties of the period under review represent an example of artistic dialogue. This was largely facilitated by creative contacts between Polish and Russian poets, composers, musicians, artists, etc., their common creative aspirations, and mutual interest in each other. The most vivid Russian-Polish cultural dialogue was realized in the field of musical creativity. This led to the creation of a kind of holistic image of Poland, appearing in a variety of themes, ideas, images of A. Mickiewicz’s work, embodied in the sphere of Russian vocal lyrics and symphonic creativity. The work of the Polish poet was addressed by such composers as M.I. Glinka, A.S. Dargomyzhsky, N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, Ts. Cui, P.I. Tchaikovsky and others. Each of them put their own meaning into certain other lines of the poet's poems. It is no coincidence that the treatment of the same poetic work by different composers presented completely different musical embodiments. The theoretical significance of the study lies in expanding the boundaries of the study of Russian-Polish musical connections of the 19th century, which will allow us to consider the problem of dialogue between Russian and Polish cultures in this period at a higher level. The practical significance lies in the possibility of using this material in cultural, educational and scientific activities.
