INTERPRETATION AS A REPRESENTATION MECHANISM: ANALYSIS OF CONTEXTUAL FACTORS

The object of this study is the process of representation. The subject of the study is interpretation as a mechanism of representation in an intercultural context. The authors highlight particular nature of the intercultural understanding context and the semantic gap effects in diverse cultural contexts. While understanding culture as a context, interpretation is identified as a complex mechanism for representing or reflecting social perception of the world. The article deals with shifting issue of the traditional “subjectivity-objectivity” correlate conception, leading to a new reflection of aspects related to the social reality interpretation, representation and the problem of intersubjectivity. The methodological study basis includes both philosophical and anthropological analysis and systemic, comparative and sociocultural methods, that enable to systematize scientific concepts, adapt various analytical tools to identify the characteristics of philosophical traditions and their influence on cultural concepts, and also to consider and describe in detail the phenomenon of interpretation. The Concepts of Interpretation are closely connected with the complex of discursive problems of reality representation. Within the framework of this problematic, the study analyzes the approaches of such researchers as M. Foucault, K. Meillassoux, B. Latour, L. Mondada. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that the study defines a new theoretical and methodological approach to the interpretation issue by identifying the dependencies of its mechanisms on various contexts - social or professional, political or economic. The relation to the object matter of the interpretation is not based on the distinction between “subjective” and “objective”, but comes from the distinction between diverse types of subjectivity. With such a research approach, subjectivity gains access to the intersubjective status of consensus within the community. The study highlights the professional discourse of the researcher, who is a subject characterized by a crisis of representation, and also examines the main structural factors that shape interpretation specific forms and analyzes the specifics of the intercultural context of understanding field and the effects of the semantic gap in various cultural contexts.
