The criterion of the state and development of economic relations is the level of development of the productive forces of society. The article examines the essence, state, and internal structure of the productive forces of society, and defines the place and role of modern science in the development of productive forces. The main source of economic growth and the decisive factor for improving the quality of life of the population is labor productivity. This article examines the level of dependence of labor productivity from the level of development of science and technology and the role of governments in promoting economic development, implementing policy innovations.
