The content of social assistance to convicts sentenced to deprivation of liberty and its characteristic features

more than 200,000 people are released from places of deprivation of liberty every year. In this connection, the issues of their preparation for release and the provision of various types of social assistance to them, which directly affect social adaptation in society, are of particular interest, both in the field of scientific research and in law enforcement practice. However, in the process of research, the author comes to the conclusion that despite the differences in the wording of the concepts of "social work with convicts" and "social assistance to convicts", they are used in the same semantic meaning, or without a clear differentiation. The consequence of this approach is the identification of these concepts in a number of components: subjects, objects, results. In this regard, the author clarifies the content of the definition of social assistance to convicts, and provides its characteristic features. According to the author, the most important prerequisite for social assistance to convicts is the need to solve social issues and problems, and the direction of providing social assistance to convicts is the key to ongoing social work in places of deprivation of liberty.
