Study of innovation processes based on the analysis of patent activity of residents and non-residents, and scientific and technological potential of the country

The article examines the relationship of patent applications, the right holders of which are residents and non-residents of the country with the scientific and technological potential of the country. This analysis is closely related to the issue of technology imports into various countries, as well as to the assessment of the scientific and technological potential of countries. The scientific and technological potential of the country was assessed by indicators related to the characteristics of the number of researchers who work in the country, the efficiency of their activities, as well as the number of patent applications of residents per capita. The novelty of the study lies in revealing a certain correlation between the proposed indicators and proposing certain principles for grouping countries with dominant features. In addition to these factors, an important role is played by the country's policy, which is implemented in relation to intellectual property and can include both mechanisms for attracting imported technology, and building certain barriers to support their own scientific school.
