Despite the rather long path of origin and development, the interdisciplinary institute of confession remains very relevant for both law enforcement officers and researchers. Insufficient regulation at the legislative level gives rise to conflict situations during the preliminary investigation and in the judicial stages. It seems that compliance with the conditions and recognition by law enforcement officials of the legitimacy of confession as voluntary is an exception rather than a rule. As we established during the study, the majority of respondents reported that they wrote a confession after a "conversation" with law enforcement officials, a lawyer, close relatives, or under the threat of subsequent criminal prosecution, as well as for the possibility of implementing the institute of pre-trial agreement, where admission of guilt is a mandatory condition. In other words, they "repented" under duress and for favorable consequences for themselves in subsequent criminal prosecution.
