Metabolic syndrome as one of the main problems of modern medicine

The urgency of the problem of MS in recent decades has increased significantly due to urbanization, lifestyle changes, a significant limitation of physical activity, improper nutrition with an increase in the share of high-calorie foods, increased stress loads. The main components of MS: arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes and obesity can lead to life-threatening complications, including: myocardial infarction, stroke and circulatory insufficiency. In addition, the association of MS with a different somatic pathology contributes to a more severe course of the latter. Of particular interest at present is the study of digestive tract diseases (in particular, gastroesophageal reflux disease) on the background of MS, since it is noted that the metabolic activity of visceral adipose tissue is able to influence the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter and the esophageal clearance.
