Thermal and electrical parameters testing of switching DC-DC converters ICs

The objective of this work was the development of an automated information-measuring complex for the electrical and thermal parameters testing of switching DC-DC converters ICs. The analysis of the capabilities of modern test equipment and the analysis of measuring circuits necessary for the parameters testing of the switching DC-DC converters ICs were determined, the requirements for the design of the corresponding tester were determined, limitations were identified when using existing industrially produced testers. A technical solution was obtained in which high metrological characteristics were achieved, which allowed, along with reliable determination of the electrical parameters of the microcircuits, to determine also the transient thermal response of the microcircuits, thermal resistance and crystal temperature. To control ICs “junction-to-case” thermal resistance, a method was suggested that compares initial sections of transient thermal response of the IC under test and reference integrated circuit.
