The goal is to study the motivational prerequisites of the appealability of the population for periodontal care to dental facilities. Materials and methods: The study involved 372 patients (main group) suffering from periodontal disease and 77 healthy individuals who formed the control group. The patients of the main group, depending on the severity of the clinical course of periodontal disease, were divided into 3 subgroups: 1 - having a mild degree (82 patients); 2 - having a moderate degree (120 patients); 3 - having a severe degree (170 patients). The state of periodontal tissues was assessed on 6 segments of the upper and lower jaws. Pathological changes in the tissues were judged by the most pronounced changes recorded in a particular segment. The depth of the clinical pockets was determined using a graded bell-shaped probe. Subsequently, according to these data, prevalence rates were calculated (the percentage of individuals with various signs of periodontal pathology and the average number of affected segments per 1 patient examined), as well as the overall prevalence and intensity of periodontal diseases. In accordance with the obtained data of periodontal status, the need of the examined population for medical and preventive care was determined. Results: analysis of the data suggests that the motivation for the treatment of periodontal disease in patients is very low, which, in turn, reduces their dental appealability. “Lack of desire to be treated” is most common for patients with mild periodontitis - 39.3%. The course of diseases in mild form, not disturbing patients, does not stimulate them to dental appeal. Independent measures taken in the final stage aggravate the clinical course of diseases and contribute to their transition to more severe forms. It is noted that the more severe the diseases are, the more they force patients to seek dental care (this factor is 33.3% among patients with moderate severity of periodontitis (p <0.01), and among patients with severe periodontitis - 27 , 0% (p <0.05)). Conclusion The problem of motivating people to apply for periodontal care to dental institutions is becoming an urgent task not only for the dental service, but also for the entire health care system.
