The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has become one of the most widespread pandemics of this century. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection is of particular importance among vulnerable categories of citizens, including pregnant women. The effect of the virus on the body of pregnant women is not fully understood: some researchers note pronounced clinical symptoms in newborns; others register an asymptomatic course. The issues discussed in the article confirm the high relevance of the problem of the health of children born to mothers who have had COVID-19, which poses new challenges for scientists to identify the features of observation, diagnosis, therapy and prevention of pathological conditions in newborns.
