During long-term orthodontic treatment, complications of various origins may arise that are directly related to poor oral hygiene. Poor hygiene may be due to the fact that many tooth surfaces are not always easy for the patient to clean on their own with a fixed orthodontic appliance. We devoted this article to observing oral hygiene and the level of dental education over the period of orthodontic treatment, as well as patient motivation for proper and successful treatment. We surveyed 40 patients between the ages of 18 and 35. The results showed that hygiene levels were unstable and declining over the year, so patients need to be prepared for long-term treatment and informed about proper techniques for individual tooth brushing.
