EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF HYPOXENE TREATMENT ON THE SEVERITY OF INFLAMMATION AND FIBROSIS IN CHRONIC PERIODONTITIS

Periodontal diseases are considered a common disease, since, according to some data, they affect from 20 to 50% of people, both in developed and developing countries. The high prevalence of periodontal diseases in adolescents, adults and the elderly makes them a public health problem. There are factors that increase the risk of developing periodontal diseases: tobacco smoking, poor oral hygiene, diabetes mellitus, a number of medications, burdened family history, stress. A number of studies confirm the existence of a link between periodontal diseases and systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and adverse pregnancy outcomes. According to some data, periodontal diseases probably increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases by 19%, which reaches 44% among people aged 65 years and older. Reducing the incidence and prevalence of periodontal diseases can reduce the associated systemic diseases, as well as minimizing their financial impact on the healthcare system. Dentistry does not stand still and offers as a conservative treatment of periodontal diseases the use of drugs with an antioxidant mechanism of action, such as hypoxene, which reduces the severity of inflammation and fibrosis.
