The article deals with such concepts as assertiveness and congruence. Both of these concepts are the main properties of a mature personality. The concept of assertiveness by A. Salter, E. Bern is presented, in which assertive behavior is considered as the opposite of such destructive actions as aggressive and manipulative behavior. The concept of "maturity", which is widely described in Gestalt psychology, is revealed. Maturity lies in the fact that the individual is free from external regulation, she is autonomous, and she herself determines the directions and methods of personal growth. A person takes responsibility for his choice and for his existence in this world. The article traces the connection between assertiveness and congruence, which characterizes a mature personality. A mature person is ready for self-disclosure, for self-realization and for self-actualization. The personality traits of an assertive and congruent person are given. Assertive personality - persistent, self-sufficient, self-confident, purposeful, flexible in communication. Congruence is the inner harmony of a person, which is expressed in the unity of words and actions.
