Paradoxes of Freedom in Art and in the Society at the Boundaries of the XIX–XX and XX–XXI Centuries

Boundaries of the XIX–XX and the XX–XXI centuries in Russian history marked by social upheavals gave birth to phenomenon of revolutionary consciousness in the society and in the artistic sphere. On the one hand, such consciousness promoted thorough renewal, and on the other hand it incited intolerance and violence, which were hardly compatible with the freedom – the main motto of all revolutions. The article studies paradoxes relating to realization of postulates of freedom after the February Revolution and the October Revolution, as well as during the years of Perestroika and in the post-Soviet period.
