An empirical study of differences in the characteristics of interaction with a child-primary schoolchild among mothers who grew up in large (with three and more kids) and small (with one or two kids) families was carried out. The study sample consisted of 218 women, including 114 women who grew up in families with many children and 104 women from parental families with one or two children. It has been established that mothers who grew up in a large family and were often subjected to physical punishment by their parents in childhood tend not to repeat the parenting style of their parents: they are prone to a high manifestation of control in relation to the child compared to granting him independence / autonomy, and also strive to establish greater emotional intimacy with the child. Relationships between the satisfaction of a woman-mother with marriage and the quality of her relationship with a child were found: no matter in which family (large or small) the mother grew up, the higher her satisfaction with marriage, the higher her satisfaction with the relationship with the child and the less control over shows her attitude towards the child.

Keywords:the large family with more than three kids; small family with one or two kids; marriage satisfaction; emotional closeness with the child; autonomy of the child; the level of control of the child; physical punishment
