The article provides a historical and philosophical analysis of the fundamental ideas of the era of the Russian Enlightenment of the 18th century. An appeal to Russian history, the desire to understand the place of one's Fatherland in the flow of time have always been the hallmarks of Russian social thought. Enlightened absolutism, as the highest point of Russian enlightenment in the 18th century, gave a strong impetus to the process of scientific knowledge, the formation of a national idea, its definition, and at the same time the design of the main trends in science, culture and art. Separate attention is paid to the creative heritage of M. M. Shcherbatov, M. V. Lomonosov, V. N. Tatishchev, N. M. Karamzin.
