The problem of memory in the English essayism of I. Brodsky (on the example of the essay «Watermark»)

The article actualizes the problem of philosophical views of I. Brodsky, which are reflected in the essayism of the poet. The author concentrates his arguments around the phenomenon of memory perceived by the poet from the point of view of temporal projection, having the manifestation of all levels of human existence. The phenomenon of memory in the essay of I. Brodsky is reflected in the structure of the worldview, comparable to the foundations of the theory of the cycle, according to which the poet manages to synthesize the levels of cognition of the multifacetedness of human existence in various aspects of being given by I. Brodsky in the associative identity «God=time=water=memory». Through the concept of creativity of I. Brodsky, the author reveals the most important function of art as one of the determinants of the eternity of the present.
