Phenomenon of journalism in publications M.O. Menshikova in 1891-1900

The article presents the results of a study aimed at understanding the phenomenon of journalism in the publications of M.O. Menshikov in the "Week" («Nedelya») and "Books of the "Week"" («Knizhki “Nedeli”») in the years 1891-1900. The study revealed that the understanding of journalism by a journalist is inextricably linked with the main processes that took place in Russian and foreign journalism at the end of the 19th century. The author analyzed a large layer of Menshikov's articles on journalism and revealed publicist ideas about the role of journalism in society and about the personality of a journalist, which are based on the primacy of conscience, awareness of the positive and negative qualities of journalism manifested in the era of scientific and technological progress and capitalist relations.
