This article is devoted to the study of the cognitive mechanism of metaphorization in the proverbs of the English language. It reflects the main reasons for using metaphor in proverbs. The article describes a zoomorphic concept that is prevailing in the formation of secondary meaning in the English proverbs. It also provides examples proving the conceptual nature of the zoomorphic metaphor
