The cultural factor as a reflection of the history of the Russian Arctic exploration

The article discloses the conceptual issues on preservation and use of the cultural heritage of the Russian North, gives the definition of the cultural space featuring as material objects as well as the system of knowledge and production technologies, the way of life and traditions. The authors give the characteristics of the historical and cultural experience of the exploration of the islands in the Arctic ocean by the Russian seafarers and particularly by the Russians Pomors, their role in the exploration of Arctic expanses. The article defines the role of the North as a bridgehead for the development of science-intensive forms of life.
