Open secrets: the emancipation reform balance

The Emancipation reform of 1861 brought losses to all of its participants: the gentry, the peasants, the state. The noblemen lost their "christened property", the peasants appeared bound with long-term mortgage, the state treasury had to credit the redemption operation. Thus, the reform may not be called plunder of the peasants but should instead be treated as an act taking into account interests of all the sides involved.
