Literary ballad in the poetry of Pre-raphaelites (D.G. Rossetti, A.Ch. Swinburne, W. Morris)

The article discusses British ballad traditions and their development in Pre-Raphaelite ballad. Stylistic means and devices typical for British popular ballad are viewed and analyzed in the poetry of Dante Gabriele Rossetti, Algernon Charles Swinburne, and William Morris. Besides, specific features characteristic for the ballad works of each author, and their innovative approaches to ballad genre are found out and described.
