Orthodox Church on Sakhalin Island (the latter half of XIX – early XX centuries) in historiography of contemporary researchers

This Article represents an overview of a number of research works which directly or indirectly address issues related to the church efforts of Sakhalin Island clergy during the period since the mid XIX to early XX centuries. The introduced monographs are divisible into two parts. First of all, these are the research works directly pertaining to Sakhalin Island itself. They enlight the diverse spheres of the public life where the Russian Orthodox Church got involved in too. Often its role is represented by the subjective view of a researcher. This stamps that the Church importance in Sakhalin Island history has not been examined yet. Secondly, these are the thesis researches providing insight into the life of different Russian Far Eastern regions: the Khabarovsk Territory, Primorskaya oblast and Blagoveschenskaya oblast. Within those research works we find general characteristics of the ongoing processes helping us realize in general under which conditions the church life was being established on Sakhalin Island.
