Public canteens – one of the forms of charitable aid to the peasants of Penza province in the lean 1891-1892

The article examines one of the forms of charitable aid to the peasants of Penza province – the establishment of public canteens, as the most effective tool in the struggle against famine in Russia in 1891-1892 Special attention is paid to the sources of financial donations for the opening and maintenance of canteens. Despite the fact that the peasants were public, a large number of people have contributed their personal funds for these purposes. One of the donors, were born in the Penza province, an outstanding Russian historian V.O. Klyuchevsky.
