Higher Art and Technical Studios (vkhutemas): its role in design development of XX-XXI centuries

In this article the author considers the history of Soviet design development, lists the main formation stages of Russian design schools and analyses pedagogical approaches and methodology of Art Studies. It is assumed that the key teaching principles formed in Higher Art and Technical Studios (Institute) (VKHUTEMAS-VKHUTEIN) are still relevant nowadays. They are used and improved in modern education. The analysis of the pedagogical experience and the key teaching principles of professional art training of experts in VKUTEMAS will enable to gain deeper insight into national design school development and choose the most efficient methods of design education. Moreover, the examination of the past experience will contribute to formation of new concept of design education system.
