The eastern direction of foreign policy and the Russian province in 1907-1914 (Based on materials of the Kaluga province)

The article attempts to research the attitude of the Kaluga provincial society to the eastern direction of the Russian Empire foreign policy on the eve of the First World War. Interest of provincial public to the problems of the Middle East and Central Asian policy of Russia was caused by the fact of negotiations with Great Britain that were aimed at the smoothing of contradictions in Central Asian issues and were finished with the conclusion of the agreement in 1907. Russia continued to explore the Far East region and the interest to it was not lost after the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-1905 finishing. That war made a painful impression on the society and press tried to mitigate the problem of Far East in 1909. Later the serious misgiving of the military conflict with China appeared. Its cause was the rapprochement with Japan.
