The concept of synonymy. Historical digression

The researched topic relevance is determined by the general theoretical significance of the synonymy relations in the language system. The object of the study is a historical digression into synonymy. The subject of the study is synonymy in general. The origin of the synonymy consideration stems from an ancient philosophy. Ancient thinkers in their reflections on the language form, on the nature of the name drew their attention to the existence of several names for the same thing. This feature of the language has found its philosophical justification through the use of the category of “identity-difference”. This philosophical category is an ontological antinomy that determines the essence of synonymy.
