Pages of the unofficial history of donations in provincial Russia during the Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905 (on materials of the Kaluga province)

Kovalev Artem Vladimirovich  (Ph.D. (History), Associate Professor of the Kaluga Branch of the FSBI HE "The Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Service under the President of the Russian Federation")

The text on the example of the Kulaga province studies one of the possible reasons for reducing the intensity of national donations for various military needs during the Russian-Japanese War 1904-1905, as well as the weakening of the support of the Russian provincial government policy. For this purpose, the cases of an unofficial history of donations - small scandals, funny things, misunderstandings about people's contributions to the cause of victory - are considered. Despite the fact that in fact there have not been cases of major abuse in the sphere of donations, the facts of unofficial history have become the property of the population in the form of rumors. The final change in moods in the province occurred by the autumn of 1904, and thus became one of the signs of the imminent First Russian Revolution of 1905-1907.
