The proposed article is devoted to changes in American historiography of Russia related to the political transformation of relations between the US and Russia over the past few decades. The object of the study was modern American Russian. The subject is the methodological approaches used in modern American historical science in the study of the history of Russia. The task is to show the intersection of methodological approaches: the creation of author's concepts on the basis of the theory of cultural anthropology, the increase in the relative importance of the cultural history of society and the social history of culture. Show the ability of American Russian Studies to respond to the demands of the time through the emergence of new topics and objects of research: as a rule, the ideas circulating in the world science are attached to the Russian material. This contributes to the fact that the history of Russia is brought in American Russian Studies in line with the common European history. The author shows a new view of American Russian Studies on the fundamental issues of Russia's historical development: the selection of the early modern period, the change in the perception of reforms, a number of events in Russian history cease to be considered unique and exclusive and fit into the context of the global crisis of the early 20th century. As a result of the research, the author records changes in the perception of Russia by American scientists. This, in turn, leads to the formation of a new historical image of the country.
