Shakespearian idioms in contemporary English: aspects of semantic structure and style

The present article explores the influence of William Shakespeare’s literary legacy on English phraseology. The main focus is on the idioms, which were coined by the playwright and later widely used in everyday language. These idioms comprise a significant corpus of significant size and research interest, as they allow us to approach one of the most topical issues of contemporary linguistics, i.e. secondary nomination, from a new angle. Namely, the study of idioms allows us to disclose the peculiarities of verbal cognition and both individual and collective linguistic perception of the real world by the speakers of a given language
