The way utterances built on the bases of confirmative-interrogative constructions’ models mark a wide range of phatic and informative speech genres is in the focus of attention of the paper in question. Utterances of the kind have the prototypical meaning of appealing for the asked opinion’s confirmation. Meanwhile, suchlike utterances have a profound potential for giving rise to new senses as well as for metadiscourse usage. The author resorts to the notions of «speech genre», «speech act», «metadiscourse» in the attempt to define the functional potential of the language units under analysis in a more detailed way.
