The verbs in the English and Tatar languages used for indirect evidentiality identification

The article reveals the category of indirect evidentiality as an important component of indicating the source of information in the process of speech activity. The aim of the study is the comparative investigation of kernel and peripheral verbs of English and Tatar languages in the process of obtaining information indirectly. The method of continuous sampling from English and Tatar Newspapers, magazines, fiction and educational literature extracted illustrative material in which we examined the peculiarities of these verbs in the process of expressing indirect evidential expression. The study revealed that kernel verb expressing indirect evidentiality in English is «to say», and in the Tatar language – «әйтү», the peripheral verbs are «to tell», «to talk», «to speak»; сөйләү», «дияү», «хәбәр итү», «танышу» which represent the indirect way of obtaining information.
