Integrated foreign language and content teaching to students based on tandem method

Amerkhanova Oksana   (Senior Lecturer, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (Moscow))

One of the main goals of teaching foreign language to students of non-linguistic areas of training at a higher education institution is the development of foreign language professional communication competence. Its achievement is possible with the implementation of integrated subject-language learning of a foreign language. However, as shown by the analysis of curricula in a foreign language for the professional purposes of a number of higher educational institutions of the country, for objective reasons, a foreign language teacher is not always able to select the subject side of the curriculum, as well as control the professionally-oriented subject content of students' foreign language statements. The tandem method (teaching tandem) is one of the effective methods of teaching students to professional communication in a foreign language. In this paper, the author a) justifies the relevance of the implementation of an integrated subject-language learning of a foreign language; b) describes the linguodidactic potential of the tandem method in teaching a foreign language; c) describes the functions of a foreign language teacher and a teacher of specialized subjects in education.

Keywords:tandem-method, integrated subject-language learning, foreign language for special purposes, subject content of training
