The article is devoted to the legal regulation of road safety in the cities of the Russian empire in the XVIII century, as one of the functions of the domestic city police. It provides an overview and analysis of regulatory legal acts in this area, examines the competences of police officials, highlights the system of penalties imposed by Russian legislation for traffic violations in cities.
