Discourse and communication: important aspects of guide’s speech in tourism

The article deals with the problems of the guide’s excursion speech in connection with the most important provisions of the theory of social and verbal communication. The most well-known communication models developed by G. Lasswell, R. Jacobson, R. Braddock, and others are described, as well as the basic tenets of ancient and modern rhetoric necessary for the formation of the theoretical basis of excursion activity. Various points of view on the essence of rhetoric as a set of practical skills and as a scientific discipline are given. The rationality of a broad understanding of rhetoric in the domestic use as a discipline close to discourse analyses and text linguistics is substantiated.
