The formation of the Taurida Soviet Socialist Republic in the context of interconnection of the Crimea with Germany and the self-proclaimed “Ukraniain Republics”

The article is dedicated to the issues connected with the formation of the Taurida Soviet Socialist Republic in the context of relations among the Crimea, Germany and the self-proclaimed Ukrainian Republics. The author concludes that each side, which was interested in the formation of a new republic on the peninsula, pursued different political aims. The leadership of the republic wanted to preserve neutrality with approaching armed forces of Germany and Ukraine. V. Lenin wanted to use a new republic as a united front of the armed struggle in the south of Russia, but I. Stalin continued persistently to promote the interests of united Russia. He regarded the formation of the Taurida Soviet Socialist Republic primarily as a vital and significant move towards the incorporation of the Crimea into the Russian Soviet Federative Soviet Republic.
