Modality and means of its expression in modern English language

The act of speech manifests the attitude of the speaker to the action which can be interpreted as real or unreal, perceived or potentially possible one. This attitude is the basis of the modality – category which represents a complex language phenomenon. The author of this article gives the definition of modality from different points of view and describes the basic morphological and lexical means of modality expression in modern English.
