Some aspects of politically correct nomination

The paper dwells on different types of correctness used in the verbal behavior: communicative correctness, commercial correctness, and political correctness. Some results of linguistic research into discriminating words and their politically correct substitutes of ethnonyms, gender types, names of professions, etc. are described; structural and semantic changes of the lexemes and word combinations in the Russian and German languages are observed. Extra-linguistic causes for the appearance of such words are also analyzed. It is shown that political correctness as a sociolinguistic category is an integral part of the language policy of the German-speaking countries.
