Features of the functioning of the metaphor in the popular scientific medical text

This article explores the functioning of the metaphor in the popular scientific medical text from the interdisciplinary point of view (semiotic and conceptual). Proceeding from the cognitive theory of the metaphor, the definition of the leading role of metaphorical expressions in understanding and structuring of abstract concepts. The author considers such functions of the metaphor in the popular science text, as a visual-concrete, expressive-evaluative, concept-forming. This study identifies and analyzes the main concepts in modern medical popular science texts according to the study of the mechanism of metaphorical conceptualization (the articles of the popular science magazine "Science and Life" for 2016-2017 have been used).
