Lukina Margarita Petrovna  (PhD in Philology, Researcher Fellow, The institute for Humanities Research and Indigenous Studies of the North Russian Academy of Sciences Siberian Branch)

The article discusses the modern linguistic and ethnocultural situation among the Yukagirs living in the northern regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) of the Russian Federation. The facts of the expeditions of recent years to the places of compact residence of the Yukaghirs testify to their national tragedy - the gradual loss of their native language and culture, which is aggravated by the conditions of multilingualism. Analyzing the collected materials, the author comes to the conclusion that the linguistic and ethnocultural situation of the tundra Yukagirs is critical, and that of the forest Yukagirs is extreme critical
