Evaluation of sports phraseological units in the modern English language

The subject of the research is sports phraseological units with expressive and emotional coloring which perform an empathic or intensify function in modern English speech. The article summarizes the theoretical approaches to the study of language assessment of idioms, describes the structural and semantic types of evaluative utterances, identifies factors that determine their nature, discusses ways and features of the intensification of the estimated values of phraseological units, identifies communicative goals that reveal their use in various situations. The methodological basis is formed by the lexical and conceptual analysis of sports phraseological units, a complex methodology is applied which is based on lexical, semantic and descriptive research methods involving linguistic and cultural analysis. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time the evaluation characteristics are analyzed and given to the sports phraseological units of modern English from the point of view of identifying cognitive mechanisms by which concepts are rethought. The categories of imagery, emotiveness and intensity of sports phraseology are revealed through stylistic analysis.
