The specifics of translation of English anthroponyms into Russian (based on the novel “The thorn birds” by C. Mccullough)

This article provides a systematic statistical analysis of the anthroponyms in the novel “The Thorn Birds” by C. McCullough and investigates the specifics of translating anthroponymic units from English to Russian. The data obtained in the framework of the presented scientific research demonstrates the main translation methods applied to English anthroponymic units and explains the reason for the use of any of the methods. Although the main translation methods are transcription, transliteration and transposition, it is noted that less common ones, such as tracing and the actual translation, are present and relevant to the work. The results can serve as material for teaching the theory and practice of translation, as well as the basis for further linguistic research in the field of onomastics.
