To the question of the formation of social identity of posad people in the 17th century

The article is devoted to the formation of the 17th century Posad estate. On the basis of legal norms, the formation of estate identity among the urban population is considered. The article raises the question of the role of the state in the formation of social identity. Based on an analysis of the legislative acts, it is concluded that the Posad population in the 17th century did not fully realize its position in society, and the Posad community as a form of organization of the Russian city was weak. In turn, in the XVII century the state acts as the subject of the formation of self-consciousness of the posad population.
