Orthographic variation of german winter sports names (a corpus based case study)

The article analyzes the phenomenon of spelling variation among compounds in the German language which name winter sports. The study uses the data from the German Reference Corpus. The research indicates insufficient or contradictory lexicographical representation of most items and their variants. The author makes an attempt to systematize and classify selected language items, and also explores the factors which cause the orthographic variation of German winter sports names.
