The analysis of the events and realities of the Second World War confirms the significance of the collective historical memory that elevates the constructed images to the level of ideologies and mythologies. The latter are perceived by the mass consciousness as archetypes with little dynamic potential and this necessitates further research. In the post-war decades, humanitarians predicted that disputes and conflicts over the images of the Second World War would fade as generations that survived the war died out. These projections have not materialized, and in most European countries, such disputes are intensifying. The materials of the article can be useful in modern public discussions about the place of a history textbook in the multicultural educational space of Russia, as well as in the development of new manuals and educational and methodical complexes.

Keywords:school literature, History of Russia, Second World War, Great Patriotic War, USSR.
