Liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and its sub camps by the Red Army on January 26-27, 1945

The article is devoted to liberation of the concentration camp complex in Poland known as Auschwitz-Birkenau by Red Army. Also the article considered the issue of the background of this event: did the highest Soviet command know about this camp, and did it set a special task for its liberation to the troops of the First Ukrainian Front?
