Pastor Gluck’s school — the birthplace of gallomania in the Russian Empire

the intensification of Russian-French relations at the interpersonal level among the representatives of high society, science, education in the 18th century influenced the cultural and educational space of Russia, the way of life, language, worldview of aristocrats and nobles. Teaching the French language to young people from influential families subsequently gave rise to Russian gallomania - an excessive passion for French life and culture. Gallomania reached its highest point in the history of the Russian Empire during the reign of Catherine II, who has great sympathy for France and the famous enlighteners, Francophone philosophers. However, the emergence of this phenomenon began even during the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna. The article examines the influence of Ernst Gluck's school on the formation of gallomania in Russia. Purpose of the study: to confirm the importance of Pastor Gluck's school as an educational institution that became one of the first factors that influenced the emergence of gallomania in Russia. Research objectives: to study the documents and history of the existence of Ernst Gluck’s school, to get acquainted with the role of school graduates in the Russian state and their possible influence on the formation of gallomania in Russia.
