National cultural specificity of communication

The paper discusses phatic emotives with the aim of learning communicative behavior of English culture representatives. 107 speech acts have been analyzed. The main pragmatic meaning of speech assessment acts is to support the interlocutor, to show the interest in him and demonstrate approval. Phatic emotives mostly include emotional evaluative adjectives and intensifiers, expressing personal attitude and speaker’s assessment of those or other phenomena which not always coincide with the speaker’s feelings. They are expressed by such language strategies as repetition, exclamation, superlative degree of comparison of adjectives hyperbolic attention to the addressee. The widespread use of phatic emotives affects the style of phatic communication which is characterized by emotiveness, appraisal and expressiveness.
